Why the requirement document matters
Lessors and owners respond fastest to requirements that can be assessed without a second phone call. A complete, well-structured requirement signals a serious counterparty and shortens every later stage of the transaction.
What to include
The aircraft
Type and acceptable variants, engine type or preference, seating configuration or freighter arrangement, and any hard limits on age, maintenance status or delivery condition. If more than one type can do the mission, say so — flexibility widens the field materially.
The commercial frame
Lease structure sought (dry, ACMI, damp, or purchase), target lease term with acceptable range, required delivery window, and delivery location. Indicating a budget range is optional but focuses responses on realistic candidates.
The operator
Operating country and registry, AOC status (current holder, application in progress, or start-up), whether the type is already on the certificate, and the intended mission profile — sectors, utilisation and operating environment all affect an owner's assessment.
Process and contacts
Who is authorised to negotiate, the decision timeline, and confidentiality expectations. If the requirement should not be circulated openly, state it — a professional intermediary will approach the market discreetly.
Common gaps that slow deals
The most frequent omissions are engine preference, delivery condition expectations, and honest AOC status. Each becomes a negotiation surprise later if it is not on the table at the start. A requirement that anticipates the lessor's questions is usually answered ahead of the queue.
Battuta Aviation prepares and circulates structured requirements on behalf of operators, and screens responses before they reach your desk.
